March 12, 2020
We wanted to take a moment to let you know what action steps we are taking in light of the rapid spread of the Coronavirus disease.
First, and foremost, we want you to know that we are not taking this lightly. We are located in Washington State and have friends that have been affected already. We are also taking into consideration many family members, such as grandparents and great grandparents, when making our decisions.
While yesterday, March 11th, the World Health Organization declared the coronavirus a pandemic, and we also marked the first case in our county, as far as we are aware, no one in our immediate circle has the Coronavirus. As recommended by the CDC (CDC Preventative Guidance) we are taking distancing steps to help curb the spread. We have removed our son from his school for the time being, and we are (as we always were – especially with a 3-year-old) washing hands and disinfecting commonly touched surfaces incessantly throughout the day. We believe that currently, prevention is the best course of action.
As Mareko operates alone, he will continue to build knives as previously scheduled. It is our understanding, “In general, because of poor survivability of these coronaviruses on surfaces, there is very low risk of spread from products or packaging that are shipped over a period of days or weeks at ambient temperatures.” (CDC Coronavirus FAQ) So, mailing should not be an issue.
In order to keep in line with the distancing recommendations, Mareko will not be attending any events in the upcoming month. And, as things are changing daily, we will keep the Instructor page updated as to his status for events further out.
