"Why are your knives so expensive?"

These are just a couple of the questions that Mareko gets asked on a daily basis. The answer is not simple, but bladesmithing is not simple, so let's take a look at what goes into building a knife, and what you, the customer, get out of it.

Writer and former cook, Tamar Adler, recently undertook the mission of finding "the perfect chef's knife" for Vogue Magazine. She read, she chatted, she tested and consulted, feeling her way through a wide variety of knives. About the Maumasi Fire Arts knife she said it "shredded whatever crossed its path with barely a touch on its Indonesian amboyna burl handle."
